Captain Jack Sparrow Halloween Costumes

A Prequel To The Pirates Of The Caribbean?
Disney has already created a background story for the enormously popular character of Captain Jack Sparrow. The story is that he was a ship's captain for the powerful East India Trading Co., and he refused to accept cargoes of slaves. For his refusal he was branded a pirate and his ship was sunk, only to be resurrected as the Black Pearl with Jack as it's captain.
Initially the script for the first movie called for Jack Sparrow to be a secondary character, a good pirate ala Errol Flynn, with Captain Barbosa as an evil pirate. Johnny Depp is responsible for creating the seemly amoral, occasionally cowardly and quixotically heroic Jack Sparrow that movie audiences know and love. In interpreting the character, Depp even had most of the control over the choice of the signature Captain Jack Sparrow Halloween costumes.
It seems unlikely that fans of the film series will be happy with a replacement actor for Jack Sparrow in films that stretch past the current series. A prequel gives Disney Studios more scope to chose from younger leading men. A Jack Sparrow who looks and dresses differently than the iconic character in the current series would be more accepted in a prequel. As a captain for the East India Trading Co., it would be expected that Jack Sparrow would adhere to a different dress code.
Since the film trilogy has grossed more than 2 billion USD, it is unlikely that Disney will stop making Pirate movies. Oddly, the original film was created to promote an existing theme park ride. The films have done so well that Disney has completely revamped the ride to make it more in keeping with the movie image.
If a popular prequel series could be produced, it would open up new marketing opportunities for action figures, games and even Jack Sparrow costumes. With doubts about whether Johnny Depp will continue to appear in future Pirates Of The Caribbean films, this may be the best way to appease the fans of the films and keep the series going.
Disney executives are marketing geniuses. The US television premier of the third movie is timed for late September, just in time to generate new interest in the Captain Jack Sparrow Halloween costumes. The costumes are already seen at practically every Renaissance Fair. Pirates no longer sport peg legs and eye patches. Now almost all the pirate costumes you see on kids and adults alike look a lot like Jack Sparrow costume. We're sorry Captain Barbosa and crew, you just aren't the symbol of the modern pirate.
